Three Region Title Day For Whitewater Sophomore Corey Richardson

Whitewater's Corey Richardson edges out Starrs Mill's Marc Stampley in the Boys 100M Dash

As the end of the 2021-2022 Georgia High School Association track and field season approaches, the Starrs Mill Panthers hosted the Class 5A Region 2 championship on Wednesday afternoon in a meet that featured several runners setting personal records and with Georgia top 50 times. Among those top finishers included sophomore Corey Richardson of the Whitewater Wildcats. Richardson began his day with a first place finish of 10.74 in the boys 100M Dash, a new PR and Georgia top 50 time.

Richardson would return to the track soon after as the fourth leg of the boys 4x200M Relay and helping the Wildcats win the title in the event in a time of 1:28.90. Richardson would end his day with a 22.37 finish for first in the Boys 200M Dash, a new PR in that event as well, giving him three region title wins on the day. The Whitewater sophomore was also a member of the Wildcats’ 4x100M relay team, which placed fifth, missing out on qualifying for the 5A sectionals next week.

Earlier in the day, hurdlers Alina Harris and Annaston Evers would both finish the girls 11M Hurdles with Georgia top 50 times as Harris would win the region title in the event in a time of 15:12, edging out Evers, who finished in 15:42. Whitewater’s Nathan Wallace would win the boys 110M Hurdles with a 15:09 finish as Griffin’s Landon Richardson would place second in 15:72. Both times were Georgia top 50 times on the day. Once completed, the girls overall region title went to the McIntosh Chiefs, while Starrs Mill would take home the boys crown.
