PSN Spotlight - Lithia Springs Lions Football Building With "Accountability"

Lithia Springs Lions Football

After taking over the Lithia Springs Lions football program, it did not take long for head coach, Corey Jarvis and his staff to establish a winning a culture within the program. In his first season as head coach of the Lions, Lithia Springs advanced to the Georgia High School Association state playoffs for the first time in the program’s history. And in the 2020 season, despite the limited amount of time the Lions had together during the springs and summer periods due to COVID-19, Lithia Springs would finish second in their region and advance to the playoffs for the second straight season.

Now as the Lions get set to open up the 2021 season, Coach Jarvis says being able to participate in traditional spring and summer activities this year has been “huge” for his team due to the fact that last season they were a young team. “We were so young last year with our sophomores and we had to start 11 of them last year. And with them missing a whole offseason, weight training, seven on seven, contact camps, that hurt us a lot,” Jarvis said of COVID-19’s impact on the 2020 season. Jarvis added that with the ability to have their normal time together this year allows he and his staff to get their guys where they need them to be for the start of the season.

And when asked about what factors played into Jarvis and his staff being able to turn things around within the Lions program, “accountability” has been a main ingredient. “Our kids are starting to hold each other accountable and they’re starting to buy in, and as long as they buy into what we’re telling them in the things we need to do to be successful, we’re going to get better,” Jarvis said. He later added that they Lions expect to open up a little more offensively and dial things back just a little on defense, playing faster and more physical to help continue their new found winning ways. Lithia Springs will open up the 2021 season on August 20 in a non-region match up with county rival, Douglas County.
