Pope Dampens Pace Academy 50 Year Celebration As The Hounds Win Dual Meet

Pope battles Pace Academy in dual meet

On Wednesday, the Pace Academy Knights swimming and diving teams, also known as the “AquaKnights”, continued their 50 year celebration of the programs competing and hosted the Pope Greyhounds. A small diving completion would start things off as Pope’s Juliann Northrop would win the girl’s event with a 166.6 point total, while Pace’s Jordan Loughran would win the boys competition.

The Knights would get off to a good start in the water as the boys 200 medley relay team of Barrett Hight, Carter Freudenstein, Corey Lochan and Sam Brooks would take first in a time of 1:47.14, but Greyhounds would take first in the next three events as the team of Payton Munroe, Piper Slorahn, Natalie Stafford and Juliann Northrop would win the girls 200 medley relay in 1:56.78.

Pope’s Gavin Huey would then win the boys 200 freestyle in a time of 1:59.89 and the Hounds would take first and second in the girls 200 freestyle as Slorahn would take the top spot in a time 2:04.55, just about 11 seconds ahead of her teammate, Tara Trudeau, who finished in a time of 2:15.68. The Knights would get a win in the boys 200 individual medley as Freudenstein would take first in a time of 1:57.49, 18 seconds ahead of his teammate, Lane Canova, who finishes in a time of 2:15.35.

In the end, it would be Pope putting a bit of a damper on the Knights’ 50 year celebration as they would go on to win the meet on both the boys and girls side as the Lady Hounds would top Pace 344-118 and the boys would take it 242-201.
