Marist Sweeps Perry In 3 Sets To Advance To GHSA 4A Elite 8
On Saturday, the Marist War Eagles hosted the Perry Panthers in the second round of the Georgia High School Association Class 4A volleyball playoffs. The War Eagles wasted no time in taking control of the match as they would jump out to a 19-4 lead in set one and go on to take the set by a final of 25-7. In set two, the Panthers put up more of a fight but would eventually fall 25-14. In the third and final, the War Eagles would continue to maintain control as they would go on to take the set 25-10, sweeping the match and advancing to the GHSA 4A Elite 8.
Following the win, Marist head coach, Leah Longoria spoke about how “staying in control” through the entire match played a big role in the War Eagles’ win over Perry on Saturday. “They got their points and we were able to get ours in, but making sure we kept momentum on our side and just stayed in control the entire time,” Longoria said of her girls’ performance. Longoria also stated that she wants to see the War Eagles work on playing better defense as they prepare for their Elite 8 match up next week. “We need to work on our defense, both at the net and in the back row. We’re going to fine tune a few things on Monday and Tuesday and we’ll be excited to play Islands on Wednesday,” Longoria said.
