Langston Hughes, Tucker Win Big In Region Tournament Openers
As the Georgia High School Association basketball regular season winds down and region tournaments commence, the Class 6A Region 4 tournament had its opening night at Tucker High School a total of six games slated, three on the boys side and three on the girls side and the Lovejoy girls and Westlake boys, who were both the No. 1 seeds for their respective brackets, off with a first round bye. On the girls side, winners included North Atlanta over Lakeside, Westlake over Morrow, and Langston Hughes, who dominated Tucker with an 81-4 win. Tucker’s four points all came from the free throw line as the Panthers defense smothered the Tigers.
On the boys side, North Atlanta, Langston Hughes and Tucker were all winners, with Tucker closing out the night with a 78-32 win over Lakeside. Up next for Tucker will be Langston Hughes on Tuesday. The Tigers swept the season series with the Panthers, as both games were close. The first win, Tucker escaped with a 55-54 win and in game two, The Tigers won 50-44. The other semifinal game will feature Westlake taking on North Atlanta. The Warriors lost both regular season match ups with the Lions. The girls semifinals will feature North Atlanta vs Lovejoy, who won the season series and Westlake vs Langston Hughes, who swept the season series.
