Kings Ridge Off To 3-0 Start With Win Over Whitefield Academy

Kings Ridge's Olivia Brabazon (#13) prepares to take a shot against Whitefield Academy

The 2022-2023 Georgia High School Association basketball season is officially underway and on Tuesday, the Whitefield Academy Wolfpack girl’s team hit the court for their season opener as they hosted the Kings Ridge Tigers, who came into the matchup at 2-0 with wins over Fideles Christian and Mountain View.

With the game almost midway through the first quarter, both teams would have their fair share of offensive struggles as the opening period would remain scoreless for more than three minutes. However, the Tigers would finally get things going thanks to a McClain Johnson three point basket to give them a 3-0 lead and would eventually go up 8-4. However, the Wolfpack would go on an 5-0 run and take an 11-8 lead early in the second quarter.

The Tigers would respond to the Whitefield run with one of their own as they would close out the first half on an 18-3 run, taking a 26-14 lead into the locker room at the half. To start the third quarter, Kings Ridge would open up on an 7-2 run to take a 33-16 lead, but Whitefield’s CeCe Springfield field would score five straight points, including a three point basket, cutting the Tigers’ lead down to 12 points as they trailed Kings Ridge 33-21.

However, in the fourth quarter, the Tigers would pick their intensity back up and shut the Whitefield offense down, holding them to just two points in the final period of play in route to the 44-23 win.
