The Georgia High School Association 6A cross country state championship appeared to heading the way of Marietta's Mary Nesmith winning her third consecutive championship as she led the 5K run throughout majority of the race, however Harrison sophomore, Paige Comstock, remained in striking distance and was able to overcome Nesmith and pick up the eventual win for her first state championship.
"To be honest, I really didn't believe it., I've always imaged it, you know," Comstock said of winning her first state championship, doing so in a time of 18: 47.84. "I though maybe junior, senior year when some of the really amazing seniors graduated, but I really definitely was not expecting that," Comstock said following her win.
In the boys 2A 5K run, Franklin County's Will Gipson, capped his senior season claiming his first state championship win, finishing in a time of 17:09.60. "It felt great. I felt like I had a really good kick there at the end and I felt fresh, I felt like I was well prepared, my coaches did a good job preparing me and I just feel like it was a really good season and a really good ending," Gipson said of his state title win.
