No. 16 2020 Basketball Recruit Makur Maker Makes Historic Commitment To Howard University

On Friday morning, one of the nation's top 20 boys basketball recruits out of the class of 2020, Makur Maker, announced his commitment to play for Howard University. Maker, ranked No. 16 in ESPN 100 for 2020, was being highly recruited by the likes of UCLA, Kentucky, and Memphis, with the Bruins being the front runner, and also had submitted his name into the NBA Draft. It is believed that if Maker will withdraw from the draft if his draft projections show him not being selected in the first round. The 6-foot-11 versatile forward tweeted his announcement just after 7:00AM Friday morning stating that he wanted to make the "HBCU movement real" in hopes that other top prospects will follow in his footsteps in the future. This comes in the wake of Mikey Williams', the No. 3 ESPN 100 recruit of the class of 2023, statement back in the beginning of June that considering an HBCU would not "be too bad." Williams tweeted the statement following the national uprising within the black community following the death of George Floyd, who was murdered by Minneapolis police offers.
