As USA Today High School Sports released its Super 25 Girl’s Volleyball week one rankings and to no surprise, the Walton Raiders as well as the Alpharetta Raiders have been named to the list. Alpharetta comes in ranked at No. 13 as they are off to an 9-0 start following their win over North Gwinnett on Tuesday. Last year, Alpharetta finished the regular season with an overall record of 46-5 and a region record of 13-0. Their 2018 season was also highlighted by a 32 game win streak. Alpharetta would advance to the semifinals of the Georgia High School Association Class 6A state playoffs where they would fall to Allatoona. Loaded with returning players, Alpharetta is posed to make another deep run and possibly bring home a championship this season.

At No. 22 is the Walton Raiders who are coming off a 2018 season they ended with them winning their fourth consecutive GHSA state title and their 13th in program history. For Walton, the season is really just beginning as they are off to a 4-0 start but will be facing some tough opponents over the next few weeks including Pace Academy, who has won the GHSA 3A state title the past two seasons. Although Walton loss part of their core, including Gabby Gonzales, Molly Pember and Jordan Rush, that helped them win the last four state championships, Walton still returns a good nucleus of girls that have been a part of Coach Suzanne Fitzgerald’s system for quite some time and know what it takes to climb to the top of the mountain.
