Alexander Cougars Boys And Girls Run To GHSA 6A Region 5 Track And Field Championships

On Thursday, the Georgia High School Association Class 6A region 5 championships continued with the finals in running events. In the early events, the New Manchester Jaguars and the Douglas County Tigers got off to good starts as the Jaguars girls 4x100M relay team took the region title in a time of 47.94 with the Lady Tigers taking the runner up spot in a time of 49.15.

In the boys 4x100M relay, the Douglas County Tigers would take home the region title in a time of 42.16 as they held off Creekside (42.34). In the girls 400M dash, New Manchester's Dae'Nitra Hester would claim the title and punch her ticket into sectionals with a time of 56.46, while the Alexander Cougars' Taviana Williams took second in a time of 59.20. On the boys side of the 400M dash, Douglas County would get another first place finish as Isaiah Stephens captured the region title with a first place finish of 48.93.

Douglas County also got a first place finish in the 100M dash thanks to Travis Collier (11.05), who was also part of the Tigers' 4x100M relay. In the girls 100M dash, New Manchester's Chloe Jarrette would take first and the region title in a time of 12.67 as she beat out Mays' Raniyah Billups. See complete meet results here.
