Pope, Alpharetta win GHSA 6A Region 7 track and field titles



On Friday, the Georgia High School Association Class 6A Region 7 track and field championship continued with day two finals of running events with the Pope Greyhounds girls holding a 50 point lead as they entered the day with 117 points. Meanwhile, in boys events, the John's Creek Gladiators led the way with 74 ponts, with the Greyhounds trailing by 11.



As the events got underway, both girls and boys Alpharetta Raiders teams would have solid performances on the track as the Lady Raiders would move up in points as wins in the 100 meter dash by Sophia Richard (12.20), the 4x100 relay team (47.43), which Richard ran the second leg, and the 400 meter dash by Kiley Mitchell (55.51) would help them take the lead, however the Greyhounds would finish strong down the stretch to win the team region title.


However, the Alpharetta boys would notch wins by Vincent Nnanna (14.51) in the 110 meter hurdles, which would be a personal record, the 4x100 relay team (42.61) and the 400 meter dash as Yoel Glover would win the race in a time of 49.43, to climb to the top in points, winning the boys team championship.
