Hornets Among GHSA 2A Elite 8 As South Atlanta Defeats Spencer 81-71

On Wednesday, the Georgia High School Association basketball state playoffs resumed and in boys 2A action, the South Atlanta Hornets hosted the Spencer Green Wave. Spencer would come out scoring the first four points of the game taking a 4-0 lead , but the Hornets would then score the next four points tying up the game.

From that point the contest would remain close as South Atlanta would hold a 13-12 lead about mid way through the opening quarter but then go on a 12-0 run to take a 25-12 lead as the first quarter came to an end. In the second quarter, the Hornets would outscore Spencer 20-16 and hold a 45-28 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, the Hornets would extend their lead to as much as 18 points as they took a 49-31 lead, but the Green Wave would chip away at the South Atlanta lead and eventually find themselves trailing 67-59 in the fourth quarter. But South Atlanta's Jaquavious Florence (27 points) would help lead the Hornets to 81-71 win and a birth into the GHSA 2A Elite 8. Watch highlights from the game below now!
