5-Star Recruit Anthony Edwards Staying Home, Commits To Georgia Bulldogs
Monday morning, one of the country's top five start basketball recruits, Anthony Edwards, announced his commitment to play for the University of Georgia. Edwards, a 6-foot-4 guard for Holy Spirit Prep in Atlanta, Georgia, is the highest ranked player for UGA since the inception of the ESPN recruiting era. "The reason I picked the University of Georgia is because it's my home school," Edwards told ESPN's Paul Biancardi following his announcement at a ceremony held at Holy Spirit Prep. ESPN ranks Edwards as the No. 5 recruit in the class of 2019 and the No. 1 shooting guard in the country. Georgia was one of Edwards' final two schools along with Kentucky after he cancelled an official visit to Florida State. "I want to put the state school back on the basketball map," said Edwards, adding, "Tom Crean is a great dude and I believe in him coaching me and developing me." Edwards noted that Crean coached two of his favorite players in Dwayne Wade and Victor Oladipo, "he's a great coach with player development."
