Panthers "Clinch" Second Straight Title As Clinch County Defeats Irwin County 27-20 For GH
As the Georgia High School Association Classes 1A through 7A state championships got underway, the defending GHSA 1A Public state champs, the Clinch County Panthers, took on the Irwin County Indians in a rematch from last year's championship game. The Indians would strike first in the first quarter taking a 7-0 lead after Zach Smith connected with Jamorri Colson for a 58 yard touchdown.
Later in the second quarter as the Indians led 10-3, Clinch County quarterback Tyler Morehead would take the snap and keep the ball, finding a hole and racing 40 yards to the endzone to give the Panthers a 10-7 lead. In the third quarter a rushing touchdown by Jamal Paulk would give the Indians the lead once again as they would go up 13-10 after missing the extra point.
In the fourth quarter, after the Panthers would tie the game 13-13, Clinch would get to big touchdown plays as Morehead would connect with Jeremiah Johnson twice to give the Panthers a 27-13 lead. Clinch would go on to get the 27-20 win and grab their second consecutive state championship. Watch highlights from the game below now!
