PSN Preview Spotlight: 2018 GHSA Semi-Final Match Ups
PSN Preview Spotlight on this week’s Georgia High School Association football semi-finals with several games to keep an eye on. In Class 3A action, the Cedar Grove Saints will face the undefeated Pierce County Bears. The Saints find themselves in familiar territory as Friday’s game marks the fourth consecutive they’ve advanced to the semi-finals, capturing a State Title in 2016.
However, last season it was an undefeated Saints team taking on the Calhoun Yellow Jackets in the semi-finals and lost 14-6 ending their bid to repeat as state champs. And speaking of Calhoun, in the other 3A semi-final game, the Yellow Jackets take on Peach County in a rematch from last year’s 3A championship game.
Although Calhoun got the win, it came with plenty of controversy as Peach County appeared to have scored on a crucial fourth down play but officials said the receiver’s knee was down before the ball crossed the goalline. So on Friday, the Trojans will be looking for redemption. In 4A action, two games we’ll be watching are the Marist War Eagles vs Cartersville and the Blessed Trinity Titans vs Troup County.
Should both Marist and Blessed Trinity pick up wins, they would meet in the championship game for the second year in a row. In 2017, the War Eagles held off the Titans 25-24 in a regular season match up but the Titans returned the favor in a big way defeating Marist 16-7 to win the 4A title. Lastly, in 5A, the Warner Robins Demons host the Rome Wolves in a rematch from last season’s championship game in which the Wolves rolled to a 38-0 victory, so this Friday the Demons will be looking to pay Rome back! A lot of exciting football this weekend and we’ll be looking forward to all it including our coverage of the Milton Eagles and Lowndes Vikings. Good luck to all the teams this week.
