Georgia High School Association Football Championship Games Facing Possible Date Change
Back in July of 2018, the Georgia High School Association had to put a contingency plan in place for the 2018 GHSA Football Championship games. The plan was developed once GHSA was made aware of the possibility of the Atlanta United having to play in a winner take all MLS Cup on the weekend that the GHSA Championship games are currently scheduled for, December 7 -8, 2018 at the Mercedes Benz Stadium. On Sunday, the Atlanta United defeated the New York Red Bulls 3-0 on the first leg of the Eastern Conference Championship at the Benz. Now, the two clubs will head to New York to play on Thursday and the outcome of that match could see Atlanta advancing to the MLS Cup on Saturday, December 8th at, you guessed it, the Mercedes Benz Stadium. Should the United advance, the GHSA contingency plan would take effect and see the high school football championships moving to Tuesday and Wednesday, December 11th and 12th at the Mercedes Benz Stadium with original scheduled times for each title game staying in place and all tickets purchased in advance for the original dates being honored on the new dates.
