Douglass Astros' Nekiyah Thompson Signs With Jacksonville State University
As the Douglass Astros girls basketball prepares for the start of their 2018-2019 season, senior guard, Nekiyah Thompson celebrated the start of the season on Wednesday by signing to play her collegiate career at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. The 5-foot-7 Thompson averaged 22.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, five steals and five assist per game for the Astros during the 2017-2018 season and helped lead Douglass to a 12-1 region record and the Georgia High School Association Class 2A Region 6 title.
The Astros also made a run to the GHSA 2A Elite 8 where their season came to an end with a loss to Josey. Thompson capped off her junior season being named GHSA 2A girl's player of the year and was selected to the GHSA 2A all-region team. Thompson and the Astros wrapped up their preseason on Tuesday with a 74-30 win over Miller Grove. They begin regular season play on Thursday against Starr's Mill in the North Forsyth Thanksgiving Tournament.
