Lady Chiefs Returning To The GHSA 5A Title Game As Defending Champs, McIntosh Defeats Buford 3-0

As the Georgia High School Association volleyball playoffs continued on Tuesday in Atlanta, Georgia, the defending Class 5A champions, the McIntosh Lady Chiefs hosted the Buford Lady Wolves in semi finals action in a rematch from last year's GHSA 5A title game in which the Chiefs knocked off the then two time defending champs, Buford.

The meeting also marked the third straight year the two teams would meet in a state championship game as Buford defeated McIntosh in 2016 in the GHSA 4A title game. Although the Wolves had redemption on their minds, the Chiefs had a mission of their own and that was to return to the GHSA 5A championship game to continue their journey to repeat as state champs.

And as the match up got underway, the Chiefs wasted no time setting the tone early in the first two sets as they would cruise to 25-13 wins in each set. In set three, the Wolves would begin to show their championship qualities battling the Chiefs back and forth most of the set and eventually taking their first lead of the night after Gabbie Hogle and Julieanne Saliba teamed up to give the Wolves a 12-11 lead.

But the Chiefs power hitters proved to be too much for the Buford defense as McIntosh would regain control and the lead as Jessie Doyle would set up several Chief players for points including Alexa Markley who closed the door on the Wolves and pushed the Chiefs into the GHSA 5A championship game with an exclamation style point to help McIntosh take set three 25-15 and win the match 3-0.
