28 Point 4th Quarter Propels Westlake to 51-30 Win Over East Coweta


In Friday night lights high school football action, the Westlake Lions hosted region rival the East Coweta Indians. On a night the Lions, who are coming off 26-23 win over Newton, would be celebrating their homecoming and the schools 30th anniversary, energy in the stadium would help the Lions take a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

Later in the quarter the Indians would get on the board to make it a 14-7 lead for Westlake. In the third quarter, the Lions would add to their lead and make it a 23-7 game in their favor but East Coweta would score 16 straight points to tie the game. The two teams would trade points over the next couple possessions but it would be a 28 point fourth quarter that would help lift the Westlake Lions to a 51-30 win.

Although, the Lions put 51 points on the board, Westlake head coach Kareem Reid told us after the game that his team did not play up to their standard, referring to the multiple penalties and missed opportunities that could have saw the Lions with another 20 points added to their score.
