Spartans Defend Home Field As Campbell Defeats the South Cobb Eagles 28-22

On Friday, the second week of the 2017 high school football season got underway in Georgia and Prep Sports Nation was on hand for the match up between cross town rivals, the Campbell Spartans and the South Cobb Eagles. The Spartans, who played host, looked to bounce back from their first week loss, while the visiting Eagles were hoping to improve to 2-0 on the season.

The Eagles would look good right out of the gate on their opening drive as quarterback Aeneas Dennis would launch a 49 yard bomb for the completion and South Cobb would find themselves in a first and goal position. On the play however, the Eagles would cough up the ball while trying to punch it in for the score on the ground, and the Spartans would escape the drive with the game still scoreless.

But the Eagles would get another chance and this time would capitalize taking an 8-0 lead in the first quarter after a Dennis touchdown pass. In the second quarter, the Spartans would finally answer back when Kameron smith would throw a touchdown but Campbell would fail on the two point conversion and trail 8-6. Things would heat up in the second half beginning about midway through the third quarter when South Cobb, trailing 13-8 would take a 16-13 lead courtesy another Dennis touchdown.

The Spartans would answer back immediately returning the kickoff 80 yards for the touchdown and regaining the lead, 20-17. Dennis would then lead the Eagles down the field once again and would cap the drive with a 30 yard touchdown pass to lift the Eagles over the Spartans 22-20. The Spartans would get one more crack at it and after failing to get into the end zone on a 2nd and goal attempt, the Spartans would go right back to Kaleb Bailey and this time he wold make his way in for the score and give the Spartans a 28-22 victory.
