PSN Game of the Week: Roswell Blanks Westlake 28-0 In Semi-Finals, Earns Return Trip to Dome for Sta

The stage was set Friday evening at Lakewood Stadium, for this battle in the 7AAAAAAA Semi-Finals playoff game between the Roswell Hornets and the Westlake Lions. The undefeated Roswell Hornets (14-0) are the #1 ranked team in the state of Georgia, and ranked #3 Nationally. The Hornets set out on a mission dating back to last season. The Hornets made it all the way to the State Championship game, only to be haulted by the Packers of Colquitt County. With a new-look offense led by former Westlake Quarterback Malik Willis, the Hornets are seeking their 1st State Title since 2006.

Willis and the Hornets offense had a very rough start, going 3-and-out on their first 3 offensive series. Giving the Westlake defense even more confidence than they came into the game with, while facing their former quarterback and teammate. Running back Sheldon Evans got things going late in the first quarter with a 36-yard run, bursting up the field, putting the Hornets deep into Lions territory. Malik Willis scrambles for a 6-yard touchdown run on the very next play, giving the Hornets a 7-0 lead after a successful PAT. Evans finished the night with 90 yards rushing on 16 carries.

After both teams played a stalemate well into the 2nd quarter, Willis hits Jr. Wide Reciver Christian “Scoobie” Ford on a completion that covered 35 yards. Two plays later, Evans finds pay dirt for the first of two touchdowns of the evening, from 3-yards out, making the score 14-0 with under 2:00 minutes to play in the 1st half.

Late in the 3rd quarter, Malik Willis strikes again against his former team. He connected with Sr. Wide Receiver Jayden Comma on a 46-yard bomb, that resulted in a touchdown, virtually putting the game out of reach for the Westlake Lions. That touchdown catch was Jayden Comma's 10th touchdown reception on the season.

Willis drove his team back down the field midway through the 4th, with a combination of scrambles and pass completions. His longest rush of the evening was a 22-yard pick up, slashing through the Lions defense. That drive ended with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Jr. Tyneil Hopper (Uncommitted), to seal the victory and a return trip to the Georgia Dome for the 7AAAAAAA Championship Game. Willis completed 14 out of 24 passes for 225 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Hornet's defense was very stingy, yielding just 141 total yards from scrimmage and minus 14 rushing yards. Along with 4 interceptions, Sr. Safety Xaiver Mckinney had 2 of those interceptions along with 4 pass break-ups. Sr. Defensive Back LeAthony Williams (Clemson commit) locked down his side of the field making it virtually impossible to complete a pass while he was in coverage. The defense also had 5 sacks.

The Roswell Hornets will battle #2 ranked team in the state The Grayson Rams (13-1) #4 nationally, for the 7AAAAAAA State Title Saturday Night at 8:00 pm in the Georgia Dome. The Rams pummeled The Mill Creek Hawks 44-26, to make its first trip to the Georgia Dome since 2011, when they last won a 7AAAAAAA State Title.
