Grady Rolls On to 54-0 Win Over Decatur

If you were planning to head to Friday's match-up between the Grady Knights and Decatur Bulldogs but decide not to because it was almost halftime, good call. The Knights got off to a very quick start scoring on their first possession of the game courtesy of a counter run by senior quarterback, Caylin Newton as the Knights went up 7-0. Grady continued to dominate the Bulldogs on both sides of the ball in the region match-up as the defense "played big" says Coach Morgan, the Grady quarterback coach. "We were able to play at a quick pace. Defense forced a lot of three and outs and our offense was able to capitalize and score quickly," Morgan adds and the score board agreed as the Knights closed out the 1st quarter up 25-0. Grady continued to cause problems for the Bulldogs offense, while the Grady offense went on to tack on 22 more points, including three touchdown passes by Newton, younger brother of the Carolina Panthers' starting quarterback, Cam Newton, and went into the half up 47-0. The Knights would add one more touchdown in the third period of the game going up 54-0 and they would go on to win by the same score.

Grady defense smothered the Bulldogs all night.

Following the game head coach Earthwind Moreland said he was impressed that his player "didn't come out and take things for granted and we took care of business early." Friday's win by Grady sets up a pivotal region match-up between the Knights and the Carver Panthers Saturday, October 1 as both teams will enter the game with 4-1 overall records and 2-0 region records. When asked about getting ready for next Saturday's game, Coach Moreland said that the Knights will need to work on staying out of penalty trouble especially on offense. "I didn't like the fact that we had big plays, big runs called back because of mistakes we made." He continued, "You can't have that when you play against a team like Carver. They're going to be scrappy, they're going to play with tenacity and with it being a rival game, we just can't have those things next week." Carver defeated North Springs 26-21 on Friday.
