Kellen Mond and #4 IMG Take Care of Business Against #2 Grayson
One of the most anticipated match-ups in high school football went down Saturday as Georgia's No. 2 Grayson hosted No. 4 IMG out of Florida in an ESPN High School Kickoff game. Between the two rosters, Saturday's game was full of some of the country's most talented players including IMG's Kellen Mond, a Texas A&M commit. However it was Grayson who was able to strike first as four-star quarterback Chase Brice connected with Jamyest Williams, who committed to South Carolina moments before Saturday's game, for a 58-yard touchdown as the Rams took a 7-0 lead. Despite getting on the board first the momentum quickly swung in the direction of IMG following a couple of crucial fumbles by Grayson.
With 5:16 left in the second quarter, Mond helped the Ascenders get on the board with a quarterback keeper for 15 yards as IMG tied the game at six. With under two minutes left in the second quarter, IMG looked as if they were going to go into the half up by 7 but a 20-yard touchdown reception by LSU commit Jhamon Ausbon was called off after he apparently stepped out of bonds prior to making the catch. After officials got together, the Ascenders were awarded another opportunity to score and ended the half with a 37-yard field goal by kicker Cooper Graham giving IMG a 10-7 at the half. The second half IMG's Mond continued to work Grayson's defense with his legs as he scored a second touchdown as IMG went up 16-7 lead. Following another field goal by IMG's Graham to go up 19-7, Mond connected with Ausbon again for a 5-yard touchdown that counted as IMG defeated Grayson 26-7. Mond finished Saturday's contest with 136 passing yards as well as 136 yards on the ground.
