South Cobb Eagles ready to take flight into 2024 season
The South Cobb Eagles Boys basketball team will tip off their 2024 season on Saturday when they hit the court to take on Arabia Mountain, marking their the third year under the direction of head coach, Hollis Bethea. "Really excited about this year," Bethea said on Tuesday, following the Eagles practice, expressing why he and his coaching staff are looking forward to getting the season underway.
While Bethea is beginning year three as the Eagles head coach, it also marks att least the third season he has had the opportunity to coach and develop several South Cobb players and he looks forward to seeing them in action. "Just watching them grow and progress over the last few years and starting to see their development, it's just exciting," Bethea said.
And as the Eagles look to continue building off of the foundation Bethea and his staff are laying, the South Cobb head coach said the embracing of what he and his staff have been teaching the past couple of seasons has gone well. "It's been a process but guys have been buying into what we're trying to instill in them and now we're really starting to see the full fruition of that," the South Cobb head coach added.
And an area in particular Bethea looks forward to seeing his players execute after witnessing them do well in over the summer and fall is on the defensive side of the ball. "I'm a big defensive so to see those guys grasp the defensive concepts and techniques that I like to instill in a team, to see that happening this summer was real refreshing," Bethea noted.
Now with the season here and the Eagles looking to improve upon the 2023 season, Bethea said he believes his players have shown a willingness to "play together" and that will be key for them to have the success they seek. "This team seems to do it more. They're gelling, they're playing together, they like playing for each other and that's what I'm most excited about going into this season," Bethea said.
