Riverwood Senior Night Ends With Win Over South Cobb

Riverwood's Leah Taube closes in for the rally against South Cobb's Nkiru Okaro

On Tuesday, the Riverwood Raiders girls tennis team hosted the South Cobb Eagles in a region matchup and on a day in which they celebrated their class of 2023 student athletes for senior night. The Raiders were the dominate team on the court as they would get the first two wins of the day with a doubles one win by the team of Jamie Cohen and Sifie Orsten followed by a singles one win by Leah Taube, who took down South Cobbs Nkiru Okaro 6-0, 6-2.

Riverwood’s Paula Stroeva was also solid on the court as she picked up a 6-0, 6-1 in singles two and Riverwood head coach, Patti Lawrimore was impressed with her players’ performances on the day. “They’re playing their hearts out on a beautiful spring day. It’s going to be a great season. I’m really excited,” Lawrimore said as the Raiders awaited the final match of the day to wrap in the double two. And while the Raiders win was just the second of the season as inclement weather has caused many matches to be canceled, Lawrimore believes Tuesday’s win gave the Raiders plenty reason to have a positive outlook on the remainder of the season.

“So what I think we’re really looking at is making sure we play our game. If we control the pace, we control where the ball goes, if they can do that, we’re unstoppable this season,” Lawrimore said.
