North Springs Opens Three Game Maynard Jackson Region Series With 12-3 Win

North Springs pitcher Daniel Jackson with 8 K's in win over Maynard Jackson

On Tuesday, the Maynard Jackson Jaguars and North Springs baseball teams met up in game one of their three game region series, with the third place Jaguars looking to gain some ground on the second place Spartans, who they trailed by three games in the standings heading into Tuesday's contest. The Spartans would heat up their bats early in the first inning as they would take a 4-0 lead thanks to back to back RBI doubles by Jake Streeter and Dylan Reid.

North Springs would continue to tack on runs while getting a solid performance from pitcher Daniel Jackson on the mound who had struck out ten batters through six innings. Although the Spartans would lead 11-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, after striking out two of the first four batters, Jackson and the Spartans would find themselves in a jam with bases loaded when a drop ball on strike three to Maynard Jackson's Shawn Givens and a bad throw to first would allow two runs to come in for the Jaguars as they trailed 11-2.

Jackson would then walk the next batter, bringing in another run for Maynard Jackson who would now trail 11-3. This would force North Springs head coach, Matt Gershon, to make a pitching change, bringing in Andrew Frank. Frank would go on to strike out Ayden Farrow for the third out of the inning and the Spartans would pick up the 12-3 win.

With the win, the Spartans move four games ahead of Maynard Jackson in the standings and remain a game behind first place Villa Rica. After the win, Coach Gershon said that it was good for his team to get out ahead in the first inning the way they did. "We needed to do that," Gershon said, adding, "It was good for our guys and our spirit in the dugout. Obviously, it paid dividends during the game." Gershon also noted that as they head down the stretch in region play, the approach they had against Maynard Jackson has to continue in games to come. "We just have to have a good approach just like we had tonight. Being aggressive at the plate and trying to drive the ball back up the middle and we'll be fine. We have a good group of guys."
