Colquitt Co. Ends Lassiter's Perfection With 5-3 "Buc Bash" Win

Colquitt County Packers prepare for next at bat against Lassiter in the Buc Bash

After four straight wins to start their season, the Colquitt County Lady Packers softball team hit a two game skid that began on Friday in the annual Buc Bash with a 5-0 loss to East Paulding, then on Saturday, the Packers opened up the “Bash” with a 6-5 loss to Creekview. In their final game of the weekend, the Packers would face two time defending state champs, the Lassiter Trojans, who came into the game at 8-0, and found themselves down 1-0 early after a Gracyn Tucker solo homerun in the bottom of the first inning.

After the Trojans would take a 2-0 lead thanks to a Lillian Holshouser RBI double, Colquitt would battle back picking up three runs in the top of the sixth inning, which was all started by an RBI single by Carli Pearson. However, in the bottom of the frame, the Trojans would answer back as Brooke Sims would lay down a bunt to bring in a run and tie the game 3-3. In the top of the seventh, the Packers’ bats would stay hot enough for them to pick up two more runs thanks to singles by Pearson and Julia Duncan, as Colquitt would go up 5-3.

I the bottom of the frame, the Trojans appeared as if they may be able to rally back to either tie the game or pick up the win after putting two on but solid defense and good pitching by Emily Allegood, who went the distance for the Packers, Colquitt would hold on for the 5-3 win and hand Lassiter their first loss of the season and snapping their own two game skid. “That was momentous, that was huge, that was a big win for our program,” Colquitt head coach, Chance Pitts said of his team’s win over the defending champs.

“I’m very proud of my girls, that was a team win. Up and down the line up, we did what we were supposed to do,” Pitts said and giving props to Allegood for her performance on the mound. “Very proud of Emily Allegood, going the distance in the circle”. With the win, the Packers improve to 5-2 on the season and will get ready for a three game series with region rival, Valdosta, which will begin on Tuesday.
