15-7 Win Over Banneker Helps Maynard Jackson Keep Pace With Region Leader Decatur

As the home stretch of the regular season approaches, the Maynard Jackson Jaguars began the week with a match up with region rival, the Banneker Trojans and trailing the region leader, the Decatur Bulldogs by one game. With the first of two games against the Bulldogs coming up on Thursday, the Jaguars would need a win over the Trojans to keep pace with or tie the Bulldogs for the region lead.

The Jaguars would get to work right away in the top of the first inning scoring three runs including a two run double by DeAngelo Nowell to give Maynard Jackson of 3-0 lead. The Trojans would respond with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first keeping the game close as they trailed 3-2.

Two more runs in the top of the second inning and five in the top of the third inning propel the Jaguars to a 9-2 lead. Despite the Trojans cutting the Jaguars' lead two four as they trailed 9-5 in the bottom of the fourth inning, four more runs in the top of the fifth inning for the Jaguars including two off of a two run double by Julian Lipscomb puts Maynard Jackson back up by eight as they took a 13-5 lead.

The Jaguars would go on to win by a final score of 15-7. The win would allow Maynard Jackson to maintain their one game back of Decatur position as the Bulldogs also won on Monday night. Watch highlights from the game below now!
