Redan Moves Past Savannah In Four Sets, Headed to Second Round of State

On Monday, the Redan Lady Raiders hosted the Savannah Lady Blue Jackets in a first round match up of the Georgia High School Girls Volleyball State Playoffs. The Lady Raiders opened up the match with dominance in the first set jumping out to a 15-5 lead. Savannah was able to use their defense to help get them back into the set as they narrowed the Lady Raiders lead to five at 17-12, but Redan proved to have to much offensive fire power as they went on to win the first set by a score of 25-14.

In the second set, Savannah appeared to have an answer for the Lady Raiders as they led the way most of the set, including their largest lead in a set on the night when the Lady Blue Jackets went up by a score of 16-12, forcing the Lady Raiders to call a timeout. Out of the timeout, Redan strung together some great defensive play led by So. Takaira Flemons and Sr. Kiola Symister as their offense got some great kill points from seniors Taliah Gardner and Johnquanek Spencer as the Lady Raiders went on to win the set 25-19.

Set three Savannah once again took the lead over the Redan and held onto it throughout the set and even matching their largest lead of four before Redan managed to tie the set at 17. However, the Lady Blue Jackets defense was able to hold off the Lady Raiders as Savannah went on to with the set 25-22. During the fourth and final set of the match the Redan Lady Raiders returned to their dominant performance which they displayed in the first set as they got out to an early 6-0 lead and never looked back winning the set 25-6 and getting the 3-1 victory over Savannah.

Following the game Coach Henderson said she was impressed by how her Lady Raiders kept fighting, "we were down in the second set and they kept fighting and came back to win and we lost the third set but the way they came out and took care of business in the fourth set," adding, "they were able to get back together and focus to do what they do best." Henderson also stated that following the third set loss she had to remind the Lady Raiders that they can not let someone "come into your house and have hope that they can beat you." Redan will head to Calhoun, GA to face #1 Sonoraville on Thursday.
