Football In Washington Moved To Spring Of 2020-2021 Season
On Tuesday night, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association announced changes to their high school sports season and decided to move football to the spring. In a zoom call with media outlets, WIAA executive director Mick Hoffman made it clear that the current dates set are not set in stone as the state is dealing with spiking positive coronavirus cases. With the changes for the season, slow pitch softball, cross country, golf, tennis, and girls swimming and diving will be moved to the fall, winter sports are to remain the same however will begin in January and spring consisting of football, girls and small schools soccer and volleyball. Hoffman also stated that in order for football and wrestling to take place, counties will have to be in phase four and in addition to the season swaps, instead of the traditional three seasons, there will be four shortened seasons.
